It was the early years of the 20th century in a Spain whose predominant occupation was agriculture, the recent industrial development produced a bourgeoisie with very little political and social influence. Already this indicates an eminently traditionalist society, its value system was dictated, as expected, by the Catholic Church. During the Republic, women achieved important achievements within society. Names such as María Lejárraga (who had to hide behind the name of her husband Gregorio Martínez Sierra), or María Teresa León represented for the writing a true sense of commitment to her own history and that of Spain.eng
