| spa |

dc.description.abstractenglish | Burns are skin lesions that can be classified according to his severity into first-, second-, third- and fourth-degree burns. Current treatments for first- and second-degree wounds range from hydrocolloids to hydrogels, recently the use of skin from animal sources has been chosen, among these the tilapia skin (PT, for its acronym in Spanish) for its high content of type I collagen and its high biocompatibility, however, this treatment has some limitations, such as the wasting of collagen type I and its high biocompatibility. However, this treatment has some limitations, such as the waste of the collagen present in the skin due to the degradation while its clinical use and the dehydration that occurs when is applied for a certain period (which also dehydrates the wound), leading to weakening and breakage of the wound. This generates the need to develop an optimal treatment that avoids dehydration of the PT and allows the use of the collagen present in it. For this reason, in this study, hydrogels based on PT collagen were developed at concentrations of 1.5, 3 and 5 mg/ml, due to the fact that this type of scaffolds have a high-water retention capacity that allows maintaining a hydrated wound environment and, also, by modulating the concentration, a collagen utilization is generated. Structural properties such as compressive modulus, swelling and shrinkage were evaluated from compression tests, weight change ratio and volumetric swelling ratio, respectively. The results obtained shows that the developed hydrogels could have a potential use in the treatment of first and second degree burns, given that the mechanical properties obtained resemble those of the skin layers affected by this type of wounds, also given that these hydrogels have a high water retention capacity, are not cytotoxic and could favor cell proliferation, so it is possible to conjecture that they could favor the healing of first and second degree burns. | spa |
