The plastic injection mold manufacturing industry is currently in a position that could be called favorable. Colombian companies in this area have shown a good performance recently and are making themselves known in the world market. With the signing of new free trade agreements and globalization in general, these companies need to constantly improve the quality of all processes to stay competitive and take advantage of the good opportunities that are being presented. Leaving aside organizational problems such as human resources, information flow, adaptation to quality standards (ISO 9000: 2000) and others, which strongly contribute to the success or failure of organizations and which are the subject of administrative sciences, the The focus of this research is on a specific process: the design of the molds. The objective is to present an application of the “Simulation-Driven Design” methodology, which is a revolutionary paradigm of work that manufacturing companies in Colombia and the world must adopt to reduce costs, time and risk when it comes to develop new products and bring them to market. There are quality problems in the process of designing molds for plastic injection. These molds, in many cases, do not meet the adequate technical requirements for resistance to temperatures and static stresses under operating conditions. It is normal for production to stop for a long time while fixing molds that fail due to these causes. This situation is the cause of economic trauma for companies, due to the high costs involved in the manufacture and repairs of a mold, in addition to losses in production time.eng
