| spa |

dc.description.abstractenglish | The present project consists of one of the existing ways to measure risk, based on two foreign currency portfolios, which were decided on by way of the methodologies as follows: one through technical, fundamental analysis and the investor’s profiles; the other through Markowitz’s Theory. The parametric method was the means through which Value at Risk (VaR) was calculated; it permits to quantify the exposure to one-day market risk and under a specified confidence level for both each of the foreign currencies selected and the total portfolio through traditional statistics techniques. In order to calculate volatilities taking part in VaR, the Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) method was applied. This was done so as to use the Monte Carlo simulation, making use of the Crystal Ball tool to smooth the progress of the generation of settings optimizing VaR calculation and further providing a great deal of elements such as Probability Distributions, Graphics Analysis and Statistics, thus allowing us to make better decisions. Effectiveness of the methods analyzed was verified as a result of using the Backtesting Test to confirm that the calculations performed were correct regarding the results of losses and earnings observed during the nine weeks analyzed for each of the portfolios. | spa |
