The study of corneal diseases has been a fascinating topic since its presence leads both to the alteration of the transparent media of the eye, generating a decrease in visual acuity, and to the loss of tissue that requires repair to maintain ocular architecture. Corneal transplantation is a surgical procedure that has made it possible to treat certain corneal disorders with good results worldwide, understanding that there are several techniques and indications for it, these results are variable. In this project, it was proposed to carry out a longitudinal observational study, seeking to analyze the indications for penetrating keratoplasty in the institution from 2013 to 2018, in order to interpret the visual and anatomical results, safety and the rate of transplant failure and rejection. The realization of this project arose from the need to know the effectiveness of this surgical procedure in our environment and to identify the risk factors associated with therapeutic failure. It is expected that with this project, protocols for the selection of patients requiring penetrating keratoplasty will be designed in the future, allowing the establishment of guidelines to improve the success of the surgery through a stricter surgical assignment, taking into account demographic data of the patients, underlying diseases , characteristics of the donor and the presence of some clinical findings that promote rejection or failure. Finally, it is sought that the results of the final work are shared with the scientific community through its socialization in recognized national international academic events, as well as its publication in a high impact scientific journal.eng
