dc.description.abstract | El fin de la Guerra Fría ocasionó cambios en la política exterior estadounidense hacia Irak. Las Administraciones de G.H. Bush (1989-1993) y Bill Clinton (1993-2001) adoptaron diferentes estrategias con el propósito de controlar al régimen de Saddam Hussein. Acudieron al multilateralismo para establecer sanciones económicas, zonas de exclusión aéreas y programas de inspección y control de armas, también utilizaron la fuerza militar cuando fue necesario. No obstante, procuraron mantener un equilibrio de poder regional favorable a los intereses de Washington, que luego sería abandonado en la era neoconservadora de G.W. Bush. | spa |
