OF, Mantilla JC, Moncada JC, Rey JJ. dc.description.abstractenglishObjective: To determine the frequency and distribution in time of the adverse effects of lumbar puncture myelography (MPL) and based on our experience and the literature, the relationship between headache after myelography (CPM) with variables that depend on of the patient, the examiner and the procedure. Methodology: Prospective study of a cohort of 274 patients undergoing cervical, thoracic or lumbar myelography. Adverse effects presented after the procedure were questioned for univariate and bivariate analysis between those who had complications and those who did not, with logistic regression analysis to control for confounding factors. Results: The incidence of headache is similar to that observed in the United States and Europe, being less frequent in the extremes of age. Protective factors for headache were the history of lumbar puncture and the absence of any other type of headache. As a predisposing factor, the patient left walking after the procedure was performed. Conclusions: Most of the adverse effects after myelography may be able to diminish with the change of some simple behaviors, such as guaranteeing the patient complete rest in decubitus as soon as the procedure is completed [Valdivieso OF, Mantilla JC, Moncada JC, Rey JJ.
