| spa |

dc.description.abstractenglish | Introduction: The objective is to determine the epidemiological characteristics of multiple primary tumors (MPT) in the population of the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga (AMB) according to the information from the Population Cancer Registry of the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga (RPC-MB) during the years 2000 to 2004. Methods: Data from the RPC-AMB were used, selecting cases that met all the inclusion criteria for TPM. The data obtained were analyzed taking into account the most frequent initial tumors, the most frequent associations, characteristics by gender and the relationship between ages and TMP. Results: 55 patients were found with 111 primary tumors, of which the most frequent were malignant tumors of the breast, prostate, melanoma and thyroid. The average age was 65 years, women were more affected than men. 78.2% of the cases were metachronous. The most frequent associations were: malignant prostate tumor and melanoma, malignant tumors of the breast and endometrium or the thyroid. Conclusion: The behavior of the TPM found in the AMB is very similar to that described in the literature. The differences found may be due to environmental and genetic factors. Based on our findings, we suggest that patients diagnosed with cancer be included in a special early detection program for other TPMs. | eng |
